James came back on staff at First Baptist in August, 2023. He previously served here for almost 20 years as Minister of Education. He grew up in Sylacauga where he graduated from B. B. Comer High School. James is also a graduate of Auburn University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

James and his wife Shirley have two children: Amy (Jeff), and Alan (Dina), who are also members of First Baptist. They enjoy spending time with their nine grandchildren, working in their yard, fly-fishing, and experiencing the beach whenever possible.
